The number of devices connected to’Internet of Things is currently “explosion”, However, there are still no agreements or shared standards in this field. Il framework open source IoTivity was developed to establish standards on licensing of products and services to the Internet of Things.
Last July, some big industry which Cisco, Intel, Samsung and Atmel founded the’Open Interconnected Consortium (OIC), with the aim of improving interoperability and connectivity. The group, which now has over 50 membership, has launched a preview of IoTivity, for certification and standardization of devices for the IoT.
The framework, ospitado by the Linux Foundation, aims to provide standards and open source implementation to allow products and services to work together, independently from the manufacturer. “Communication between machines and devices will be crucial in the new world of technological innovation. Open source software is a fundamental step to reach this goal – commented Jim Zemlin, executive director at The Linux Foundation -. IoTivity is a great opportunity for the open source community, that will support this goal”.
In qualità di Linux Foundation Collaborative Project, IoTivity is managed by an independent group linked OIC and will be available in various programming languages, operating systems and hardware platforms. In the coming months, The consortium will develop and launch a’1.0 standard specification and, at the same time, IoTivity allow the implementation of this specification in a completely open source.
Another interesting project is represented by’AllSeen Alliance framework, promoted eponymous nonprofit consortium, always using the Linux Foundation, which aims to spread the adoption of products, systems and services that support the Internet of Everything, con membri del calibro di LG, Microsoft, Sharp and Qualcomm.
